Without My Computer

For those who are wondering what has been happening to me recently, I have not blogged because I am without my computer and I am DYING! I make almost daily trips to my Mom's house where I can either use her computer or my sister, Kerry's computer. The day after I got my car back, my computer wouldn't boot up when I returned from work. Long story short, my hard drive is on its way to Texas (it should actually be there by now) and hopefully within a week or two, I should have a new one sent back to me so I can become technology proficient again. I will give a full update when I am back in full capacity!

Car Update

After a day of agonizing over my car, I am proud and extremely happy to say that I have my car back. I am so appreciative of all those who helped me through my time of trial- especially Debi Moosman who came and got me at 6:00 a.m. to take me to work. Can I just say how much I love this ward and the wonderful friends I have?! I feel so emotional right now. I hope my worries will now dissipate. LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Help in Time of Trouble

I HAVE THE BEST WARD EVER! Today, I got in my car and drove to Church just like I do on any given Sunday. When Church was over, my car wouldn't start. I tried a few times and nothing. I could turn the key part way and it would give me the "ding" sounds that tell me my seatbelt isn't on. When I tried to push in the clutch and brake to actually get the car started, nothing. I started walking back into the Church when I ran into Brother Tandiman who came to look under the hood. Within 5 minutes, the Moosmans and Mehrs pull up and try to jump start my car. When that didn't work, they push started it.

The Moosmans followed me to Auto Zone (thank goodness they just barely built one by us) where they tested my battery and alternator, but found it to be okay. After we dropped off her husband at home so he could go home teaching, Debi followed me all the way to my dealership in Sandy where we couldn't get in because everything was chained up. We were thinking we could just leave my car there and put my key in a drop box, but I guess not.

To make a long story shorter, Debi had me follow her to her brother-in-law's house where he could take it to work tomorrow to find out what is wrong with it. Debi is also coming to pick me up at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow so I can get to work. My heart is so full of love for my wonderful neighbors. I feel like I give them so little and they give me so much in return. I feel awful that people are having to move around their schedules to help me, but I hope they know that by being there for me, they have touched my heart and shown me what it is to be Christlike. Because of their example, I want to become a better member of the Church.

I will update my situation tomorrow. Hopefully things will be on track and my car will be back in my possession. Thank you everyone who has ever shown kindness to me. I will never forget it.

Background Change

Okay, so I've changed my background once again to what I'd like to think is prettier. I'm still not liking the post title color I have chosen though, but I can't find one that seems to fit the blue text. And I like the blue text. Please send me suggestions on a better color. It's driving me crazy!

Also, does anyone remember how to change the color of my playlist box at the bottom. I don't think this purple color works.

Free At Last! Free At Last!

Shout HOORAY everyone! I have just come home from my last Gifted and Talented endorsement class! It has taken me a year and a half plus countless hours of work on 3 separate practicums (minimum of 45 hours each), but I have done it. I have to wait until my grade posts and then fill out a cutesy form so I can be official with the state of Utah, but I'M DONE!!! I just had to let that out! Now maybe I'll have more time for blogging. Maybe I'll even change my background again tonight. The possibilities are endless...

Winter Scenes

I have finally decided to change my background to a more appropriate season. I have to vent though at the lack of winter scenes to choose from on "The Cutest Blog on the Block"! It says there aren't any available when I press winter and so few are actually generic winter. I didn't want to do just Christmas backgrounds because I want to have this up a little longer. As you can see, the green on my snowball-throwing people is just tacky. I would change the color of their green clothes to something more appropriate, but I don't think I know how (if it's possible). Anyway, if anyone knows of some other way cute backgrounds suitable for winter, let me know. I'm open to suggestions.

A Teen Dream Come True!

Oh my gosh! I am in such a state of excitement and am just drooling over these pictures I am going to show you! I mentioned in an earlier blog that I got tickets to go to the New Kids on the Block concert and I went last night! So many things I didn't expect happened. First of all, our seats were in the 51st row on the floor so we had good seats. Secondly, no major tall people were in front of me so I could see the whole time. Third, I remembered to bring my camera (which has awesome zoom) therefore I could take totally awesome pictures! And here is the exciting part: THEY CHOSE MY ROW AND THE ROWS IN BACK OF US TO GATHER AROUND THE ROTATING STAGE TO SEE NKOTB UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL! I am putting in the major close-up shots of the hottie boys that I was able to get. Oh, and for all of you American Idol fans out there, I was not far from DAVID ARCHULETA!!! I am including one picture of him (the only one I took) in this blog. So drool, it is totally cool! I will never forget this concert-especially since I am seeing my dream fulfilled. 1. I am a HUGE fan of Broadway musicals and would like to do some community theater someday.

3. I often pretend to sing to an imaginary audience when I'm alone at home. I just put in my CDs including my karaoke ones, and belt it out.

7. My favorite food is potatoes without the skins. I realize that the skins are the most nutritious part, but I think they taste yucky.

NKOTB!!!

I know I have totally been slacking on my blog, but I had to tell you how excited I am for November 15th! My friends and I are going to the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK CONCERT!!!!!! I totally know I am older now and should be over this type of thing, but I didn't go to any of their concerts when I was a teen so now I get to fulfill my little fantasy of seeing them perform. I guess this means I should go out and buy their album...

A Very Good Friend

Okay, so after Church today, I was sitting under a blanket watching Season 1 episodes of NCIS (I know, I was so NOT keeping the Sabbath Day holy) when my sister came in from the ward she goes to carrying a Book of Mormon. She asked me why I didn't open the door for the missionaries and I just gave her a blank look and told her that no one had knocked on my door since I'd been home. She proceeded to open the front cover of the Book of Mormon and told me there was no mistake, but that the Book of Mormon was for me. I was very confused and as she handed it to me, I read what was written inside:

I want to take a moment and Thank You for being such an amazing daughter of God, I have learned so much from you. Thank You for having and sharing your sweet testimony, it has blessed so many peoples lives. Enclosed in the Book of Mormon was a bookmark with a quote from President Hinckley which says: "It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."

I don't know who gave this to me (although I have suspicions it is one of my Young Women), but I want to express my greatest appreciation for my Very Good Friend who somehow through the Spirit knew I needed this right now. If any of you who are reading this know who did this for me, please thank them in my behalf. I also want you all to know this quote by President Hinckley applies to each and every one of you. If there is a way I can help relieve your burdens like this sweet angel has helped relieve mine, please let me know. You are all my VERY GOOD FRIENDS!

Catching Up

So I have been slacking in a major way with my blogging (like usual) and I told myself that after I came back from the General Relief Society meeting, I would catch everyone up. I have had major things going on, but probably the most major was when my friend Becca got married on September 12th! I was able to attend the wedding and help at the reception. Here are some pics!

So I caught the bouquet-it's not like this is the first time it's happened!

Can I just say that catching the bouquet was slightly surprising in the fact that the flowers were real. I didn't grab the part you hold on to, I grabbed the part that sticks out from the bottom. Needless to say, part of the bouquet came apart and I gave the part I grabbed away to another vieing for the part! It was a good wedding all in all!

Emotional Roller Coaster

I told myself that once school started I would still make time to post on my blog. I haven't been following my own advice so I'm re-telling myself to do this. These last two weeks since school has started have been both physically and emotionally straining on me. I have great students this year so it isn't them (which is a miracle!), but it's just me trying to adjust to things at home and at school. When both hit at the same time, an emotional breakdown is in order. I have had two in the past few days.

I am so grateful for the Gospel because I know I would be absolutely lost without it. I am still struggling with things (aren't we all?), but I know that I am a daughter of God. As long as I keep reminding myself of that, all will be well!

Ten Years Ago...
I had just graduated from USU and was looking for a teaching job. When I didn't find one right away, I started working for a company called Tel Trust as a customer service person on the phone and then as Quality Assurance. I then was able to sign up as a substitute and do long-term subbing for my old junior high where I ended up teaching full time about half a year later.

Five Years Ago...
I was working at Jefferson Jr. High teaching history. I think I was getting ready for my 2nd trip to Walt Disney World and a Disney Cruise.

Five Months Ago...
I was trying to survive the school year and went to Idaho to visit my Dad for Spring Break. I knew after that break, I wouldn't get another one until Memorial Day so I was bracing myself for impact.

Back To The Work Grind

I am not going to whine (too much) about the fact that I had to start teaching today because I realize that people work year round without a summer break. I have to say, though, that in some ways it is harder to go back to work after having nearly 3 months off. I was able to get more sleep, feel relaxed, and read as many books as I felt like. After reading Kristin's blog, I totally relate to her having to come up with a plan to balance everything. It's funny how I don't have a whole lot taking up space on my calendar, but the moment work starts, everything hits at once.

I guess I just worry about the stress I will start to feel as the school year progresses. In the past, I have had a hard time dealing with the stresses I put on myself and every time a school year starts, I get the anxious butterflies again. I've actually started to work some of it out so it wasn't as bad last year, but I still have a ways to go. I am thanking my lucky stars for such wonderful friends in the ward who help me to calm down and build me up! It helps so much!

The bright spot about today was that I got to teach in a brand spankin' new school. For those who don't know the story, my school burned down a little over 3 years ago (before I worked there). We shared a school with Churchill Jr. High for 3 years (2 for me) and finally got to move into our new school today. There were many naysayers and people who wouldn't believe it would be ready in time to house the students, but because we have awesome work crews who have barely seen their homes, Wasatch Jr. High is now officially open. There is still quite a bit of work to do, but we had a very successful school day. I don't have any pictures of the destroyed school, but here are some pictures I took today of the completed (nearly) one:

Where Did My Energy Go?

Today was my niece's 6th birthday so my Mom and I decided to go up to Logan to help my sister and her husband with hosting their first birthday party. I thought "No problem-I'm a teacher and can handle 35-40 junior high students. A couple of 6-year-olds will be a snap!" Well, I forgot that 6-year-olds have this innate ability to keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny. Not only that, but there was a 3-year-old and 8-year-old in the mix. By the time all the kids left, my sister was worn out, I was worn out, and my Mom was worn out. In fact, on the drive home, I didn't think I'd be able to stay awake (I know-not safe!). I have to say though, that they were some of the cutest kids and my niece has a ton of friends. Nine kids came all together and apparently that was the whittled down list from what my social butterfly niece wanted. I give kudos to all of you parents who do these wonderful things for your kids! I don't know how you still have the energy to do it, but I think I lost mine back in high school somewhere! I dedicate this post to you!

Alas, Forsooth, and All That

Once again, I have returned from my annual trip to Cedar City to watch the Utah Shakesperean Festival. My friends and I started going in 2001 and from the first moment we watched the plays, we were hooked! We left Monday morning and returned last night (Tuesday) after watching 3 plays: "Cyrano de Bergerac", "Two Gentlemen of Verona", and "The Taming of the Shrew". The only one we hadn't seen before was "Cyrano de Bergerac". Every one of the plays was incredible and we had the best time! This is also due to the fact that one of our favorite actors, Brian Vaughn, was back this year. He played the title role of Cyrano and played Lance in "Two Gentlemen" who is a servant of one of the gentlemen. He is hilarious! He has been doing the play for about 14 years and we really missed him when he wasn't there last year. He actually attended SUU! (Can you tell I am totally a fan?!) For "Two Gentlemen", we managed to get FRONT ROW SEATING so we got a great view of everything. Even though we were sitting in the front row, we did not get spit upon. For those who have not been to the Shakesperean Festival, I highly recommend it!

Breaking Dawn Frenzy

I realize this will be one of many blogs about Breaking Dawn around the neighborhood, but I believe we all have somewhat of a different experience of it. Friday night beginning at 8:30 p.m., Barnes and Noble held their release party for Stephenie Meyer's final book in the "Twilight" series. Can I say major mess?! Don't get me wrong, it was way fun, but talk about crowds of people! I can also say I've seen some of the worst prom dresses in my life. Anyway, I arrived pretty early on and the first people I ran into was Mindi and her crew wearing their "Edward's a polygamist, right?" shirts. I was totally jealous (and I still want one) and then Jaqui, Jen, and others came. I was glad to see friends. When Angela came, it was all complete! There were games everywhere, no place to sit down and hours of waiting. By the time the night was over, my feet were killing me! It was all worth it to get the book though. Unfortunately, once they started selling the book at midnight, the line was long. Fortunately, I had my cute little wristband, but I was in the 800s. I didn't end up getting my book until 1:15 a.m. That didn't stop me from reading it until 3:00 a.m.! I finished it last night and can I just say how much I love it?! I can't stop thinking about Edward and Bella-and they aren't even real!!!!! Someone commisserate with me that this saga is over! Stephenie Meyer better write more books just as good as these ones or I will cry!!! By the way, those involved with the huge group picture we took outside, I am still expecting a copy!

Family Get-Togethers

Every Pioneer Day weekend, we have a family reunion on my Mom's side up in Idaho at my Grandparent's "ranch". This reunion started as a Laurel project for my cousin and they have been holding these ever since. The ranch is found past St. Anthony (which is past Rexburg) where there is a lake with some canoes and a cabin. Some years there are a ton of people and others only have a few. Only about 35 people came this year so it was nice and quiet. What is even more miraculous is that I only came out with 2 bug bites this year. They are the itchiest things though and no amount of lotion is going to help. I had a good time, but I am very excited to be back home after being gone for what seems like every weekend. No, I am not going inactive. You shall all see me whenever you like now. I'll even be in church on Sunday!

We All Scream...

Who doesn't love ice cream? C'mon, admit it. You all love it. Well, today I went to Leatherby's with Emily Funk and Andy Ross so we could consume that which we love! I decided to get the huge banana split (and yes, I pretty much ate the whole thing). We also ordered yummy fries with even yummier fry sauce. Needless to say, I am no longer hungry. We had fun just talking and visiting with each other. We may have to do this again!

Return To The 21st Century

Finally! It has happened! I am back in the fast-paced world of technology. Last night, Wes and Andy Ross came over to put together my brand new computer! Instead of waiting for what seems like hours for something to come up on my screen, it is now INSTAFAST! I loved my Windows ME, but it has now gone the way of the Dodo and was about ready to get thrown out my window anyway. I feel so happy and excited. Because I have no children of my own to show pictures of, I will show pictures of my new acquisition. I know it's not the same thing, but at least I have something to show!! :)

I Love To See The Temple

On Saturday, my sister, Amy and I drove up to Twin Falls so we could attend the Temple Open House. The temple will be dedicated on August 24th. We couldn't take any pictures of the inside (totally understandable), but it was gorgeous. One of our tour guides told us as we were waiting that some of the floor was from India and some of the wood from Africa. I thought that was pretty cool. The temple is small and you have to call ahead before you attend a session to make sure there is room for you. Idaho's state flower, the Syringa, is found all over the temple: carpeting, windows, and the design of some of the chandeliers. I loved it! Because I had gone to bed at 2 a.m. that morning and then had driven all the way to Idaho, I was pretty exhausted. I slept the minute my head hit the pillow. I only made it through my Dad's sacrament meeting before I had to come back and take a nap so I could drive home without being drowsy. When I got home yesterday evening, I took an allergy pill so I could breathe and when I woke up this morning, my body decided it didn't want to work anymore. My allergy pill didn't wear off until about 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. No more allergy pills for me!

Long-Lost Friends

Tonight I was able to meet a friend for dinner. We went to Kearns High together and we hadn't seen each other in many years! I was so excited to see her-we had classes together and sang in Madrigals our senior year! We were both doing a little reminiscing and talking about other friends we hadn't seen for a long time. We also got to tell each other what we had been up to since graduation. We had such a great time that we have decided we are going to hang out more!

I guess you could say I'm the sentimental kind so I love seeing and talking with those I have a connection with. During high school, I had my group of friends that I had my locker by, but I was lucky enough to meet so many wonderful people and not just stay with one group. Some of my friends tell me I know everyone because I'm always able to keep them updated on what everyone is doing, but the reality is that I don't want to let go. I'm not saying I live in the past, but there are some moments I would like to never forget. I know it is important to look and plan for the future so I won't stop doing that. I will also remember the good times I had in the past so I can share those memories with future generations.

Family Reunion

So yesterday Amy and I went to Orem for our 1st Bi-annual Derald and Marie Green family reunion. This was just for the immediate family of our grandparents. All of our families have grown and scattered hither and yon so this was a way for all of us to be reacquainted with cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. Unfortunately, Grandma and Grandpa, Dad, Debra, and Uncle Wayne couldn't be with us, but we had them in our thoughts-we totally missed them! I've Been Convinced...

Well, it seems enough people are creating blogs so Jaqui convinced me it would be a good way for everyone to know what is going on in my life. I'd better put a disclaimer here: my life is in NO WAY exciting, but if you're really interested, it will be good practice for my journal writing. I'm still learning how to do all of this so everyone be totally patient with me.

It has been 10 YEARS since I graduated from college (goodness gracious) so Angela and I went to USU to walk around campus and take pictures on Tuesday. Although it was hot, it was good to relive those memories! Aside from a couple of eyesores they call sculptures around campus (and I'm mostly referring to the one by the old SciTech (now Merrill-Cazier Library) building, everything was great. We ate at Wok on Wheels-one of the only places that believe in Tiny Spicy Chicken-and had, of course, Aggie ice cream! We ended our trip visiting my sister and nieces. All in all, it was great!!!

I expect to be invited to your blogs (Kristin, Mindi, and Beth)! I am going to try to keep up with this!
